Hello everyone,
I was planning on a doing a lot with this site as part of my resolutions but I have been so busy with my other resolutions that this one kind of got put on hold. It is still lower on my priorities but I want to add a little right now...
I started finding links and info on all the different areas that a martial artist should study (if they plan on making it a way of life). Here is a very short, rough list of different areas to learn about. You can start building up your own links and files until I start posting more...
- styles of martial arts
- history (of the arts and of the regions)
- people of the arts
- diet and nutrition
- exercise
- fitness (what constitutes fitness, etc)
- flexibility
- competition rules
- language (Japanese for Japanese arts, Chinese for Chinese, and so on)
- culture (how does the culture affect the art that you study, etc)
- individual techniques (fine points, mechanics, supplementary skills, etc)
- patterns and kata of your style and of other styles
- applications
- explanations of techniques, etc
- if it is a BUDO, the moral and philisophical ideas related to BUDO
- and so on...
Like I said, this is a very rough outline. I wish to expand on these points as this blog develops. It might be a book in progress, I havent really decided...I guess it depends on how it grows.
But in the meantime, as it grows, I would appreciate your ideas and suggestions. What do you need as a martial artist? As a school owner or teacher? I have only my perspective, so I would appreciate other ways of looking at the martial arts in general.
Well, I will write more again soon. I will try to add a little each week... much like martial arts training...it is the little bit you do every day that makes the biggest difference...
Talk to you again soon!
Brent
